Course overview

Analysis becomes unreliable when the underlying data structure is misunderstood. This course covers reading and building data models, understanding grain and relationships, and avoiding the joins that silently duplicate rows.

  • Read an existing data model and understand its grain
  • Distinguish transactional and analytical structures
  • Build relationships without duplicating rows
  • Recognise and avoid fan and chasm traps
  • Design a model suited to reporting needs
  • Document a model so others can use it correctly
Who should attend

  • Report and dashboard developers
  • Finance and operational analysts
  • Anyone joining data from several sources
